a Hobby was seen on the 3rd chasing House Martins
July 2007
Skylarks have been present all summer. Sedge Warblers and Whitethroats have bred as last year on the northern edge and Hirundines have been feeding over the area.
March 2007
Skylarks singing from the begining of the month. A Chiffchaff seen on 3rd is probably an overwintering one.
February 2007
Poor weather in December and January have hindered watching for wildlife. Rabbits and the occasional circling Buzzard have been seen over the last couple of months. In February from the 14th onwards Skylarks have been heard singing. Carrion Crows have been regularly seen with up to 25 at once.

12th November - 1 Green Woodpecker flew in across the canal

Sparrowhawk regularly seen
June 2006
27th June - 3 Buzzards circling the area. Fox cubs have been seen in the past few weeks in the long grass.
After a period of quiet when raising young, the Sedge Warblers can be heard again singing late at night. A maximum of 3 singing Sedge Warblers have been heard on the northern edge and young Whitethroats have been seen in the north eastern corner. Skylarks are still to be seen and heard daily.
May 2006
Sedge Warblers and Whitethroats are breeding on the border with the canal. Sand Martins are seen regularly as are House Martins, Swallows and Swifts.

A pair of Mute Swans has taken a liking to the grassy area.

March 2006
Skylarks have been singing daily in the second
half of the month, a Green Woodpecker seen on 22nd and a few
migrant Swallows and Chiffchaffs seen by the
end of the month. A Kingfisher flew along the drain by the
canal on 29th.
11th Mar - A Skylark singing this morning in the sunshine and a pair of Stock Doves flew over. Plenty of Rabbits seen recently and a Fox seen last week.
February 2006
5th Feb - A female Merlin flew north across
the site on a sunny sunday afternoon.
January 2006
2nd Jan - Record count of 42 Carrion Crows
as well as the first Great Black Backed Gull. There were also
5 Lesser Black Backed Gulls and a number of Herring
and Black Headed Gulls.
December 2005
29th Dec - A small flock of Lapwings flew over on this cold
wintry day. Also a Green Woodpecker and a Fox
in good condition were seen again
26th Dec - 1 male Green Woodpecker in the small trees at the north side
25th Dec - 2 Snipe in the grassland, a bonus to see on Christmas Day morning.
21st Dec - 22 Carrion Crows
20th Dec - 1 Snipe flew over and a Grey Wagtail was feeding on Allen's Brook.
18th Dec - a Fox and a female Pheasant seen today
17th Dec - 4 Snipe present
5th Dec - The Snipe were disturbed by people working on the drains, but a flock of about 100 winter thrushes mainly Fieldfares made use of the grass.
4th Dec - 15 Snipe have been attracted by the grassland which
is very wet after recent heavy rain.
November 2005
16th
Nov - Both Skylark and Meadow Pipit were seen
to fly over. There were a pair of Stonechats at the north eastern
corner (the first I've seen here). A Buzzard was making itself
at home, also at the north eastern end - see picture.
27th Nov - A Green Woodpecker was the highlight today sat on a fencepost near the canal. Also a pair of Buzzards flew over from Hankridge Water Park and a Female Sparrowhawk was hunting at the Bathpool end.
Up to 25 Carrion Crows various Gulls and up to 3 Grey Herons have been present in the open areas throughout November.
